On May 5th, it’s National Liberation Day in the Netherlands. We remember being liberated 75 years ago by the Americans, British, Canadian and Polish troups on may 5th, 1945. This liberation was done ‘by force’. By the use of weapons. By bloodshed of many young man who died for the liberty of others.
This song has been written to honor all those that died for freedom, all those that suffered from war. And to remember us there are still many who suffer from war, all over the world. Since I do not want to make money off this specific track, it’s available as a free download at SoundCloud and Drooble.
The track is also included on the latest Solid Rock Blues Band Album, “Solar Powered Love”, available at BandCamp.

Background information
Every year liberation day is celebrated with big festivals all over the country. Including (free) popfestivals. In the province of Groningen, where I live, they planned to have a big festival also in the main capital, the city of Groningen. Singers/songwriters, bands and others were invited to write an original song about the liberation, under the name “Sounds of Freedom”. But the corona (covid19) virus also hit our country. I wrote a song for this contest, inteded to do a demo-recording, and hoped someone would be willing to (record and) sing it for the contest.
I expected the contest to be postponed, just like the festival. But it wasn’t. So, I missed out on the change to submit it but decided not to leave the song in some drawer and finished the recording to be included on the new album. On this track I played all instruments: drums, bass, guitars.
And yes, I also did the vocal track 🙂
