Shotgun Angel (coversession)

Shotgun Angel Drooble Charts Herman en Rudy

Herman (Drums) & Rudy (Guitar, vocals) got together last summer and recorded three cover songs: Shotgun Angel by Daniel Amos, Dancing Barefoot by Patti Smith and 40 by U2. A fun unrehearsed session. The songs are now available at Drooble and SoundCloud.

The last song that was mixed and finished was Shotgun Angel by Daniel Amos, a christian alternative rock band formed in 1974 and still active.The song isn’t a real rock song though. We think “country” would fit the song best so it has been labeled like that on Drooble.

We both picked one favorite song for the session. Herman choose Shotgun Angel, Rudy choose Dancing Barefoot. Since there was some time left we more or less improvised U2’s “40”.

After the initial sessions the bass guitar and additional guitars were recorded. But basically it was a jam session  and lo-fi recording. We’ve planned to get together again next year at Herman’s house where he will be playing his own acoustic drums.

Soon after posting the song on Drooble it went into the charts! Hope you like this recording. And we hope it will stay in the charts for some time of course.

Over the past years several cover songs were recorded, including a few at an empty store (“Abandoned Store Sessions”).

The cover of Shotgun Angel landed on #11 on the first day it was uploaded and got up to #7 on the next day. We’re very happy you all took the time to listen and hope you enjoyed our lo-fi cover of this song a lot. Of course we can’t compete with the original. You can find that on Youtube.

New song release – Mountain High

Mountain High Song Release Solid Rock Blues Band

Mountain High (Valley Below) is an uptempo song, countryrock and bluesrock influenced, by the Solid Rock Blues Band project. Inspired by a short holiday trip to the Harz region in Germany.

While on holiday this song was written by Rudy and it took a few months before the melody and music were composed. After that was ready, recording and mixing the song was done in one day. Recorded, mixed and released on May 2, 2021 at The Loft Studio.

Ever noticed a woman alone in a bar? Ever noticed how she, most of the time, isn’t alone for long – well, at least unless she wants to be alone. Ever noticed a man in a bar? This song does note the differences. It’s a country-rock track, made available yesterday trough BandCamp and will be made available trough other platforms later on.

Lay Lady Lay – Classic Bob Dylan song

Bob Dylan has been an inspiration to me and many, many, other musicians for decades. His music has been sung and recorded by thousands of singers and bands and inspired many people to start a career in music and write songs. So far he’s also the only artist who ever won a nobel prize!

For me, Dylan has been an inspiration ever since I picked up a copy of “Shot of Love” at a sale. I was only 13 years old and had read a review of this album in a Christian magazine. They were raving about it but, as I later found out, most fans didn’t like Dylan’s “gospel years” at all. This has changed btw. Even Rolling Stone Magazine is now raving about it, after he rereleased the music from this period including a lot of live recordings. Anyway – I bought the album and started digging back. I ended up buying almost all his albums, visiting his concerts (Groningen, Rotterdam) over the years that followed. And still do.

Dylan is a master of words. Many of his songs are pure poetry but also show the raw side of life. Hurricane, anyone? And also in this song. Lay Lady Lay. It sounds so lovely, but listen to the words! I always loved it. I also recorded it. It is with some restraint that I post it. This is, for now, as it is and it is a work in progress btw. Some changes in the drums need to be done (by another percussionist). But I’d like to post it now. Hope you like it!

New album (EP) “The End Of The Street”

Songs with Blues, Rock & Roll, Country Rock and Indie Rock influences and with a touch of Post Punk. Guitar oriented songs using Gretsch and Telecaster electric guitars as well as acoustic guitars, an occasional keyboard and even tambourines.. the Solid Rock Blues Band at it’s best!

Proud to announce another EP from my one-man-band-studio-project was released on BandCamp, SoundCloud and of course on Drooble!

The album consists of original songs only and one of them was a co-write with my friend and fellow Drooble user James Zheutlin with vocal contributions of singer Judith S.

Available on BandCamp of course and also on CDBaby and (soon) on all major streaming platforms. It contains three songs already on Drooble (but I’ve now updated them with the mastered versions of course).

Hope you like it as much as I did writing and recording it.

New EP Released: Morning Ritual (free single download)

A brand new EP by the Solid Rock Blues Band has been released today on ReverbNation, BandCamp and SoundCloud.

We’re moving! Moving to a new house and this also means: a new studio! To mark this big change here’s the last production ever made in the old “Loft Studio” – our brand new EP “Morning Ritual”. The album includes four blues, country and rock inspired original songs.

The Title Track, “Morning Ritual” can be downloaded for free at SoundCloud. But if you’re willing to support independent music, please consider downloading the full album (EP) from BandCamp for only $2!

A song telling the story of a lady, addicted to Wine.. up-beat, guitar driven, track!

02 – Morning Ritual
The Title Track. Well, .. a song about drinking coffee and the End of the World. But it seems as long there’s coffee, we do not need to worry about the End of the World, right?

03 – Stone Hearted Mandy
Previously recorded and released on the Barking Aunts’ album “Yesterday’s Coffee“. This was a concept album, a story in a handful of songs, about family life and how it got torn apart. We thought this track could be improved so we re-recorded it.

04 – Summertime
We can’t wait for Summer to begin.. mixed and produced by Jay H. using his Vocal King plugin and giving it a good creative treatment. It brought the song to a level we would have never expected.

WHY DID WE DO THIS?!

You might wonder why we are now offering all music as free downloads. The reason for this is simple: over the years we’ve spend a lot of time and effort in recording music. Publishing it. On Spotify, for example, this resulted in well over 33,000 plays/streams. We got paid US$ 1.35 for those 33,000 streams. That’s what we consider a total and complete insult. So, since they’re giving it away – why don’t we? And get something in return: a way to get in touch with the people listening to our songs.

We will continue to make singles, albums and EP’s and make them available on commercial platforms (since they will put them on Spotify, iTunes and so on). But on our BandCamp page you can get them for free. Except for the most recent publication. So, the back catalog, as of now, will be free. Forever. As soon as we publish something new, it will be for sale and the previous single, album or EP will be set to “free download” and so on.

Day By Day – Free Gospel Album (EP)

“Day By Day” contains six strong, classic, spiritual songs (hymns) in a more modern setting: instead of organs and choirs, you will hear a band using Drums, Bass, Guitars and Harp. The title track, Day By Day, was written in 1865. Most of the tracks, except for one original song, date back at least 100 years and have been popular for many decades in congregations all over the world.

Over the years I’ve recorded several gospel songs (traditionals). Of course, not as you might know them from Church. Some are a little more up-tempo. Instrumentation has been modernized. Drums, Bass, Guitar, Harp. All recorded at the “ZolderStudio” home recording studio.

At this moment the EP (only available exclusively on BandCamp) contains six tracks, including one original song.

Tracks inlcuded are traditional hymns like “Day By Day”, “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. All songs dating back, originally, well over a hundred years yet with lyrics that still are powerful, comforting and with deep spiritual meaning.
